offshore: Strengthening foundations

In 2023, INSB Class continued to provide valuable technical assistance to offshore operators across various regions in addressing safety, offshore regulatory compliance, risk reduction and supporting operational safety throughout the preceding operating period.

The offshore maritime industry in 2023 experienced steady growth, driven by a sustained demand for energy resources, technological advancements, and increased focus on sustainable practices.

Despite geopolitical uncertainties and fluctuating market conditions, the offshore domain demonstrated resilience, contributing significantly to global energy while the push for cleaner energy sources and the expansion of wind farms created a dynamic shift in the offshore landscape.

INSB Class efforts were marked by several key milestones, including the survey and classification of newly introduced offshore assets, and the enhancement of compliance protocols that align with evolving international regulations.

An upward trend was recorded in the inspection and certification of Self Elevating Platforms and Drilling Units, which accounted for 31% of our newly certified offshore tonnage within 2023.

Key initiatives for long-term value creation within the Offshore Activity Area:

Our priorities towards long-term value creation within the Offshore Activity Area build on several key priorities aimed at enhancing the safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability of offshore operations. Our offshore activity strategic focuses include:
1. Growing the Core Floating Production Certification Activity
  • Synergies and Project Wins: INSB Class seeks to expand its core business of certifying floating production units such as Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) units.
  • Collaboration: leveraging synergies with industry partners and stakeholders, capitalizing on successful projects, and securing new certifications.
  • Enhanced Expertise: Continue to strengthen our expertise in the certification of these floating production systems to improve safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Regional Growth: gradually build a broader and stronger global presence in the offshore industry, establishing or deepening partnerships in key geographic regions with substantial offshore activities.
  • New Markets: Tapping into emerging offshore sectors, including renewable energy (offshore wind and tidal energy), which requires certification services for new types of floating structures and systems.
  • Handling All Steps in the Process: Streamlining the process of transferring vessels or floating units from other classification societies to INSB Class, ensuring minimal disruption and compliance with international standards.

  • Seamless Execution: Implementing a smooth transition process by handling all technical, administrative, and regulatory aspects effectively.
