The year 2023 was marked by notable progress in INSB Class’s efforts to support the Greek domestic fleet. INSB Class maintained a strong presence within the domestic shipping segment, conducting numerous surveys and inspections that assisted enhance safety and operational compliance for commercial vessels trading within the national waterways.

1. Marking strong survey and certification activity
In year 2023, the rate of our survey and certification operations for the Greek domestic marine segment remained strong, with the influx of +619 vessels entering anew into the INSB Class register, representing a +12% increase for newly entered vessels when compared against year 2022.

2. Continued Fleet growth
By end December 2023, our Greek domestic fleet register counted 4654 active vessels, reflecting a continued fleet growth by +6,5% when compared preceding year figure. With 3432 surveys and inspections performed within year 2023, our survey activity marked a +2,3% increase against year 2022 and let to the issue or endorsement of 4809 certificates.

INSB Class RO functions
Within the scope of the Greek National Maritime Safety regulations, the Greek Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy has delegated to INSB Class the functions of a Recognized Organization, delivering comprehensive and integrated array of survey and certification services for fleet in service and new building vessels.
Through our corporate dedicated and specialized Greek Shipping Division and a well-placed domestic surveyors’ network, we administer and execute all survey and certification work for our Greek flagged domestic trade fleet.
All year round and with the support our 34 domestic surveyor locations, we were able to maintain a key presence in all of Greece’s major ports and regions ensuring high responsiveness and reliable assistance towards our client base.
Our sustained growth is indicative of our effective strategies and strong service orientation reflects upon the trust placed in us by domestic ship operators.
Quality & Performance Metrics
INSB Class focus for quality and performance remained constant. Throughout the year, a total of 12 internal and 66 external Vertical Compliance Assessments (VCAs) were completed, yielding positive outcomes. The areas under examination encompassed evaluations of surveyors’ technical proficiency as well as the execution of procedures for overseeing new construction operations.
During the same reporting period, results if our annual client-based assessments remained high and reflected a sustained overall satisfaction rate of 98%. Additionally, nine (9) Surveyors Monitoring and on-board surveying activity performance assessments were conducted within 2023, as part of our dedicated surveyor’s annual competence review planning.
Approaching the year end, the 10th consecutive annual surveyor’s refreshment training seminar was held in attendance at the SAVOY Hotel, Piraeus on 08 December 2023. The workshop covered a broad context of themes, including legislative, technical and procedural topics.
Rate of newly registered Greek flagged ships averaged 51 per month.

A total of 109 permits related to vessel conversion supervision projects were obtained, out of which 99 were successfully undertaken and concluded.

During the year in review, the Greek Authorities performed 66 external Vertical Compliance Assessments (VCAs) to an equivalent number of vessels certified by the society , yielding positive outcomes.

Year 2023 saw the further enhancement of our surveyors’ team with the organic addition of two (2) surveyors at the head office post and the recruitment of three (3) additional surveyors within our domestic network.

Supporting new fleet
During 2023, INSB Class was assigned with 76 new construction supervision projects generated from the Greek market. By the end of the year, 86 new building projects had been initially certified, while the supervision of 26 projects was ongoing.
